The method describing isothermal and adiabatic test procedures used to detect thermally induced exothermic decomposition reactions. The standard procedure is Heat-Wait-Search (HWS). Accelerating Rate Calorimeters (ARC®) help the industry operate safely and profitably.

As highly versatile, miniature chemical reactors, they measure the thermal and pressure properties of exothermic chemical reactions. The resulting information helps engineers and scientists identify potential hazards and address key elements of process safety design including emergency relief systems, effluent handling, process optimization, and thermal stability.

  • Accelerating Rate Calorimeter 244 (ARC®) is designed to safely measure the amount and rate of heat release associated with the processing or storage of chemicals within a container volume between 1.5 ml and 8.5 ml.
  • The Accelerating Rate Calorimeter 305 (ARC®) provides adiabatic calorimetry data in a safe, controlled laboratory environment.
